Georgia Beginning To Reopen Its Economy, Lifting Some Coronavirus-Crisis Limits

Citing President Trump's guidelines for Opening Up America Again, released last week, Gov. Brian Kemp announced at a news conference Monday steps to reopen Georgia's economy, starting this Friday.

Kemp said "favorable data, enhanced testing and approval of our health care professionals" motivated him to reopen some businesses in the next week. Georgia is on track to meet Phase 1 criteria as recommended by the White House's coronavirus task force, according to the governor. Kemp cited Department of Public Health reports that emergency room visits of people with flu-like symptoms are declining and that documented COVID-19 cases have flattened.

Georgia, Tennessee announce plans to reopen some businesses, wind down coronavirus stay-at-home orders

The governors of Georgia and Tennessee on Monday afternoon announced new plans to bring their states' economies closer to full force amid signs the coronavirus outbreak is slowing.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said certain businesses, including gyms and hair salons, can reopen beginning this Friday. Meanwhile, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee confirmed his state's stay-at-home order, previously extended to April 30, will end that day.

CORONAVIRUS IN GEORGIA: Shelter in place to end April 30

• There are now 19,399 confirmed cases of coronavirus with 775 deaths in Georgia, according to new data released Monday at 7 p.m. That’s 86 new deaths. At least 3,489 cases have required hospitalization. This is all according to data from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
