BOSTON -- Rick Porcello wants another shot to take the mound this postseason.
If the Boston Red Sox stave off elimination on Monday night, manager John Farrell says he'll get it.
Farrell confirmed prior to Game 3 that he plans to start Porcello in Game 4 of their AL Division Series against the Cleveland Indians.
Eduardo Rodriguez had been scheduled to start Game 4. But Sunday's rainout allows the Red Sox to bring back Porcello, a 22-game winner, on the usual four days of rest.
Porcello gave up three home runs in one inning during Boston's 5-4 loss in Game 1. It was his first postseason start since 2011, and dropped him to 0-3 with a 5.66 ERA in nine career appearances.
"I don't think for me the first game, and for ourselves as a team the first two games represent who we are as a ballclub and how good we are," Porcello said. "So for me, I can't wait to get back out there and throw the ball the way I'm capable of."
After his team was outscored 11-4 in the first two games in Cleveland, Farrell said it was "all hands on deck" for his team as it to tries to extend the best-of-five series with a victory in Game 3.
"If we get there tomorrow, Rick is the starter. He's been extremely successful here in Fenway Park, and hasn't gone the 10-12 days in between starts as Eddie has," Farrell said. "That's the plan tomorrow, provided we get there."
Porcello said he hasn't changed his normal habits this postseason. That includes his ritual of wearing the same hat for the entire season.
He said he'd heard someone traveled into town just to press the ALDS patch on the side of his cap.
"It's the same hat," he said. "I'll continue to wear the same hat until the season's over."
