Lin-Manuel Miranda hosted the most recent “Saturday Night Live,” looking as giddy and grateful as he did on opening night of his musical “Hamilton.” Even with the mega-popularity of that show, Mr. Miranda, clean shaven and shorn of a ponytail since his days starring in “Hamilton,” acknowledged the rarity of having a musical-theater composer as host of “S.N.L.,” saying at the top of his monologue: “Most of you watching at home have no idea who I am.”
He continued with a musical parody reboot of the “Hamilton” number “My Shot,” walking the halls of the studio where “S.N.L.” tapes while rapping in his signature rapid-fire style about the intersection of “Hamilton” and the discord of this year’s presidential election:
Yes, I’m right in my element
Who knew that Hamilton would be so topically relevant
The way these grandstanding candidates be talking
They’re just a tweet away from facing off in Weehawken.
If you’re wondering whether Mr. Miranda referenced Donald J. Trump at all, ask yourself this: Are “Hamilton” tickets expensive?
The entire opening number is here:
